Double the Trouble: Double Matcha??

Up and coming new cafe: Stagger Coffee, is it worth the hype?

To answer if it is worth the hype, the answer is yes! This new cafe specializes in something called a “double matcha” meaning it has literally double the matcha. It is a matcha latte with matcha cream/cold foam and even more matcha powder sprinkled on top!

The vibes of this place are awesome as well for it being new! It is very modern and spacious and filled with people!

Transportation

I attend USC in Central LA, so this spot in K-town is actually one of the more closer spots to get to. By car which I have taken with my roommate it is about a 12-15 minute drive, and even with traffic in the morning, it tends to take a little longer then that but it is a super smooth drive!
I have also taken the bus here and it is about 30-35 minutes with traffic but both ways are super easy to get here! I haven’t tried to metro to this spot since the bus is what is recommended from USC.

Atmosphere

This cafe is great for all sorts of crowds! To people studying, catching up or talking about their day, to families, or to couples with their dogs, there is a ton of variety! It was crowded at 9 am both times I have been, but there wasn’t a wait and I got a seat with my friends & brothers regardless!

Food

The first time I went during the opening week with my brothers and friends, there was only one pastry option which was a blueberry cream cheese muffin which smelled amazing, but I didn’t know how many they had or how much it was so I didn’t get it. But, the second time I came with my roommate we split the muffin & got one of their other pastries, the ham and cheese croissant and I was happy with both!
The blueberry cream cheese muffin looks aesthetically pleasing, and it tastes pretty good too. I like the muffin it is moist and not crumbly, with really good cream cheese, however I like more of a blueberry taste which I didn’t really get but it’s still good! The ham and cheese croissant has a flaky crust which is my favorite and it tastes very airy and yummy! 9/10. The other pastries look awesome as well, I’m sure you can’t go wrong!

Drinks

I mainly only get matcha when I go to cafes, I haven’t tried Stagger’s straight up matcha, just the viral version the “double matcha” which I explained earlier. It is really yummy though. It is a pretty sweet matcha, but you don’t taste any grassy bitterness and the cold foam just gives it even more matcha-ey boost. The matcha powder itself on top doesn’t taste bitter either, doesn’t really taste like anything it’s there for the aesthetic I guess. 9/10 bombbb

Studyability

As I said this place is full of diverse crowd: couples, people studying, couples with dogs. It is pretty loud in there at 9 am with lots of conversations but people were able to study, both times I went that wasn’t the goal in mind but I think I would still be able to study there if I needed to, just pop some headphones in! 7/10.

Staff

Super sweet amazing staff! They helped my roommate pick out a really good orange mocha she said, and the staff explained each drink to her well that she was curious about. Very efficient and sweet! 10/10

Overall Rating

I give Stagger Coffee an 8/10! The staff is a 10/10, transportation is a 9/10, drinks and food 9/10 and studyability 7/10. I really enjoy this spot, most of the time however I am here at cafes to study so with that in mind I would make sure to have my headphones, but I would always come back for a good matcha & place to sit!
