Cafe 2001
Super pretty historical building! The ambiance was super nice and had classical music blasting. New and upcoming cafe in the LA’s Arts District.
Transportation
I attend University of Southern California which is by DTLA (downtown LA). I live super close to a Metro station, bus or I can Lyft to the Arts District. I personally have only gone to the Arts District by car or by a bus, never the metro. (Not sure how you would get here by metro). By car, this is about a 15 minute drive, and by bus I have taken the LADOT bus then a regular bus so about 40 minutes. The LADOT is very fast and super clean which was nice so not too bad for transportation.
Atmosphere
This place is very cool. As I said, it is a historical building with 2 floors. The upstairs has a glass railing and the ceiling has very cool windows so it is very pleasing to look at. The classical music is a great plus and the seats are very regal and comfy. There was a mix of people chatting and doing work which is nice.
Food
I got a very yummy strawberry jelly filled donut. The strawberry jelly wasn’t too sweet and same with the powdered sugar and the bread was very soft so it was super good! My brother got a cookie and said it was good as well! They serve lunch and dinner options too which is nice.
Drinks
I got a matcha latte here as usual. It came unsweetened but it was made really well and was very creamy/foamy. It, to me, had the right amount of umami tasting and tea taste, I personally didn’t think it needed to be sweetened but my friend sweetened hers so it is to taste. Overall, I really enjoyed their matcha!
Studyability
I think this is a good study spot! There is a decent amount of seating, I know this space can be a restaurant technically, but it is a cafe style so they had no problem with my friends and I studying. As I said, they had classical music playing which is great for studying and people could chat away as well and it wasn’t distracting. However, the Wi-Fi was spotty. Sometimes it was very very good, while sometimes my iPad was super slow (my brother and friend didn’t really have as much of an issue so maybe it’s just a me thing).
Staff
As always, the staff was very nice! They gave great recommendations and everything I got was great.
Overall Rating
Overall, I give Transportation a 7/10, Atmosphere & Studyability a 9/10, Food a 8/10, Drinks a 9/10, and Staff 10/10. If you're able to drive to this area, I bet the parking is hard to find but I recommend driving here! Great historic/trendy area in general, and you can’t go wrong with any option at Cafe 2001!
